SOPA

From True Capitalist Radio Wiki

SOPA is a United States bill introduced to Congress by Lamar Smith that will give the law enforcement more power to fight against copyright violations. The bill was complimentary to PIPA, or the Protect IP Act, introduced to Congress by Patrick Leahy.

Because of the regulatory nature of the bills, both bills became target for massive protests supporting Internet freedom and freedom of speech. On January 18th, 2012, massive protests were held throughout the Internet community in opposition to SOPA and PIPA. On this day Ghost hosted a special episode of True Capitalist Radio joining the protests and calling on the Capitalist Army to fight against Internet-Regulation.

Ghost's Views

Ghost views SOPA and PIPA as another form of government authoritarianism and market-regulation. Since at least fall of 2011, Ghost has been a harsh critic of both bills, going as far as to support an anti-Lamar Smith viral video campaign during late February through March of 2012.

ACTA

ACTA, or the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement is a multinational bill that will set in place standards for laws on intellectual property. Like SOPA and PIPA, the bill has garnered massive amounts of Internet-resistence. Ghost has been highly critical of ACTA as well as SOPA.

H.R. 1981

H.R. 1981, otherwise known as the Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers Act of 2011 is yet another Internet-regulation bill proposed by Lamar Smith. The main purpose of the bill is to increase data retention, in short, making websites hold your information for a certain period of time, supposedly, to fight against child pornography.

This bill, along with SOPA, inspired Ghost to being the Anti-Lamar Smith viral video campaign.
