Turkey

From True Capitalist Radio Wiki

The Republic of Turkey is is a presidential, formerly parliamentary, republic in Eurasia, mainly on the Anatolian peninsula in Western Asia, with a smaller portion on the Balkan peninsula in Southeast Europe, bordered by Syria. The capital of Turkey is Istanbul. The current nation of Turkey came into existence as a secular constitutional republic in 1923 under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Since the early days of the Cold War, Turkey's internal politics have been characterized by an ongoing conflict between the military, that considers itself the protector of secular state formed by Atatürk and the Turkish Government, which has often been characterized by Islamic ideals and non-secularism. Since 1960 the country has undergone six coups d'état attempts, one of which became a hot button issue during True Capitalist Radio broadcast.

Turkey became a hotly talked issue in the show during Episode 312 when the country underwent an unsuccessful coup. Ghost was hoping that the secular military would succeed in the coup and called for execution of its increasingly authoritarian president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, whom Ghost called a totalitarian Radical Islamist. Ghost left the show in a fit of rage after learning that Erdoğan's supporters were winning and shouting Allahu Akbar in the street. Ghost was afraid afterwards that Turkey's situation might spawn World War III and began to suspect that the coup attempt was a false flag attack orchestrated by Erdoğan administration with the assistance of Vladimir Putin. Since then, Ghost has criticized Erdoğan's policies that aim to reduce political freedoms and attempt to bring an end to Turkey's secularism.

Turkey has also been involved in the Syrian Civil War, in which its military has been accused of human rights violations of killing Syrian refugees heading into Turkey. There is also an ongoing conflict between it and ISIS. On New Year's Day, 2017, a man dressed as Santa Claus shot and killed 39 people in the Reina Nightclub in Istanbul, in which ISIS claimed responsibility for. The shooting was covered on Episode 424 and, of course, a number of sick and sadistic Twitter names were inspired by the event. There is also a significant amount of evidence showcasing that Turkey has been directly assisting ISIS[1], notably the current United States president Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden have called out Turkey for this.

Trolling

Turkey has been the butt of multiple jokes among trolls, especially after the increased political tension in the mid 2010s and the assassination of the Russian ambassador in December 2016. Notable Twitter names playing on this have included "Turkey Stuffed With Lead."
